Pompey battled back from a goal down at Doncaster to snatch a point in a 1-1 draw at the Keepmoat Stadium.
On a bumpy and uneven pitch, both sides struggled to get going until eight minutes remaining of the first half when Chris Brown latched onto a wonderful pass by David Cotterill to flick the ball past Simon Eastwood.
And in the early stages of the second half, Rovers should have been out of sight when former Pompey player Cotterill had a strike which was saved well by Eastwood.
But after much dominance, Doncaster lost their grip on the game and started to hand the initiative to Portsmouth.
And after bringing on John Akinde for Liam Walker they struck an equaliser.
Jed Wallace was set up by Patrick Agyemang with 15 minutes remaining and he smashed the ball home.
In the end, despite Doncaster being top of the table and at home, they had nowhere near as much possession as Pompey, who had the ball for 57 per cent of the time.
The draw keeps Pompey in 23rd place and they have lost just once in their last five matches.
