Locks Heath Swim Squad (LHSS) set a number of personal bests during a regional competition.
The swimming team competed in the Hampshire County Championships relays and BAGCAT (British Age Group Categories) where the swimmers stormed ahead of their own time records.
During the relay races at the Mountbatten Centre in Portsmouth, three teams of girls and one boy’s team from LHSS took to the water in the 4 x 50m freestyle and 4 x 50m medley relays.
A total of 37 teams were entered into the championships from 20 clubs, from as far as the Channel Islands.
In the girls nine to 12 years group Jessica Larby, 11, Emily Tidby, 12, Arabella Suttie, 10, and Megan Watts, 12, had a strong performance earning them 13th place in a time of 2.14.01.
Then in the girls 14 and under age group, Gracie Hodgkinson, 13, Megan Watts, 12, Zita Edwards, 13, and Ellie Fletcher, 13, earned a respectable 12th place in a time of 2.06.34.
Harriet Brocklebank, 13, Zita Edwards, Ellie Fletcher, and Gracie Hodgkinson secured 9th place for the 4 x 50m medley relay in a time of 2.22.51.
The boys, William Whitlock, 11, Ben Wilton, 11, Jack Newton, 12, and Ben Willsmore, 12, swam in both the 14 and under 4 x 50m freestyle and 4 x 50m medley relays, finishing in 18th place in both events.
Locks Heath swimmers also took part in the tough 400m freestyle as well during this weekend of events. Personal best times were gained by Jessica Larby finishing 9th, Arabella Suttie finishing 5th, Jack Newton in 8th place and William Whitlock in 11th place.
William Whitlock also added a PB in the 400m individual medley to his list of achievements finishing 9th.
It was another successful weekend of races for Locks Heath Swim Squad at the BAGCATs, which were held at The Quays in Southampton. Seven swimmers – three boys and four girls – took part for the Locks Heath club.
Competing against 20 clubs the squad entered 13 events and produced 29 marvellous personal best times, and 1 terrific club record.
Ben Willsmore set a club record in the 50m backstroke, winning 1st place and he gained four further personal best times.
In setting four PBs William Whitlock cut his 200m freestyle by more than six seconds and shaved four seconds off his 200m individual medley and came 3rd in the 50m fly.
Arabella Suttie destroyed her previous times in 200m backstroke and 200m freestyle by more than eight seconds. While Jessica Larby smashed more than eight seconds off her 200m freestyle PB to earn 4th place.
Zita Edwards, 13, also stormed to five new personal best times gaining two 3rd places, one in the 50m breaststroke and another in the 100m breaststroke.
Head Coach Lynda Reid said: “Some great swims and lots of PB’s from a small team of promising swimmers. It was an excellent effort by the team. Well done.”
