Hampshire Chief Constable Andy Marsh was left red-faced this evening (May 5) after a tweet from his social media account advised his followers how to take advantage of a rapid weight loss treatment.

The chief constable’s tweet at 7.05pm today to his 1,500-plus followers said: “Lose up to 20lbs of fat off your body in less than 2 weeks.” It also included a short link to a website.

Anyone who followed the link from the chief constable’s tweet would have risked revealing their own account details and finding their own Twitter account hacked.

It later transpired the chief constable’s Twitter account had been hacked and the weight loss suggestion had been sent out in his name without his knowledge.

He was alerted almost an hour later and just before 8pm announced on Twitter that his account had been hacked.

“Afternoon all – have been hacked,” said Chief Constable Marsh on Twitter. “Thanks for heads up – password changed now. If you clicked on the weightloss tweet change your password.”
