Families will be heading down to the River Hamble this weekend for an amuse-bouche or an aperitif in their fancy dress couture at the chic Burseldon, Swanwick and Warsash Regatta.
After last year’s regatta had a theme of London Through the Ages in celebration of the Jubilee and Olympic events, this year it will have a Parisian theme for the popular rowing and sailing event.
Events begin from mid-day on Saturday (August 24) and fancy dress is encouraged. Keeping the afternoon moving there will be a bar, tea and refreshment tent, barbecue, whisky draw, children’s games, novelty stall and tombola all situated in the Elephant Boatyard.
The opening ceremony begins at 2.30pm followed by aquatic events and the children’s fancy dress parade all in keeping with the Parisian theme.
At around 3.30pm the water carnival will begin and float down the river. Anyone wishing to enter a float should contact the committee via the event website.
The evening’s events begin at 6pm with the prize giving for the afternoon’s events and a pig roast and a bar will be available in the Elephant boat yard. The Grand finale of a torchlight parade of dinghies and firework display is set to begin at 8.45pm.
On Sunday there will be yacht racing taking place in the morning and gig racing in the afternoon. The prize giving for these events will begin at around 5.30pm.
Spectators should note that there is no parking on the regatta site and limited parking in the surrounding area.
