Cornerstone Primary School pupils, wearing the new purple uniform, began arriving at the new Church of England school off Leafy Lane, after it was blessed at a ceremony to mark its opening last night.
Staff, parents and pupils joined Whiteley vicar Philippa Mills at a service to bless the new Voluntary Aided Church of England school.
Executive head teacher Charlotte Weavers, who is also executive head teacher at Sarisbury Infant School, and Chairman of Governors Andrew Saunders joined the celebration for the long sought-after school for the parish.

Mrs Weavers said: “This is a new chapter for the families and community in Whiteley. The involvement with the church and the diocese ,and to work with with Reverend Phillips Mills, is an exciting opportunity. She will be coming into the school on a weekly basis.”
The 37 children in reception and a combined Year 1 and 2 class have begun their studies.
An official ceremony to mark the opening of the school is planned for October led by the Anglican Bishop of Portsmouth, Christopher Foster.
